Greeting to the Sun, Zadar

Nestled along the picturesque Dalmatian coast of Croatia, the Greeting to the Sun is a modern marvel that pays homage to the sun's power and its central role in our lives. The Greeting to the Sun consists of 300 multi-layered glass plates placed on the same level with the stone-paved waterfront in the shape of a 22-meter diameter circle. Underneath the plates, solar modules provide a symbolic interplay of nature and human ingenuity. As the sun sets, this impressive installation comes alive with vibrant lights, creating a breathtaking display that mirrors the solar system.

Designed by architect Nikola Bašić, it was completed in 2008 and serves as a contemporary monument celebrating the sun. During the day, the plates absorb the sun's energy, which is then used to power the entire installation's lighting system. This not only creates a stunning light show at night but also underscores the importance of renewable energy sources.

The Greeting to the Sun is located at the very tip of the Zadar peninsula, near the Sea Organ – another renowned architectural piece that turns the ocean waves into hauntingly beautiful music. Together, these two installations form a unique combination that appeals to both visual and auditory senses.
