The aquarium of Dubrovnik is located in the old city port, in the medieval fortress of St. John. The aquarium symbol is a sea cavalry.
The aquarium consists of 31 pool of the total volume of 115 m3 containing specimens of the flora and fauna of the Adriatic Sea. It is the oldest resident of the 1953 turtle. Other species that can be seen in the aquarium are Costorosis, Crabs, Sea Stars, Zubatci, Orada, Lubini, Kirnje, Orhani, Othanica, Octopus, Pagari, Crows, Drops, Jegulja, Ciplines, Murina, Skipina, Sea Jezinci, Trpovi, Snails, shells etc.
The history of this institution goes out in 1946 when the fishing station was established, that is, when the Ministry of Fisheries of the People's Republic of Croatia founded the Oceanographic station in Dubrovnik in 1946, as a regional part of the Oceanographic Institute in Split and in 1949 when the HAZU Bioological Institute was founded. The establishment was encouraged by the Croatian biologist Tomo Gamulin. Since those years, organized scientific research work in the field of oceanography and fisheries in Dubrovnik. These two institutions were the basics of today's Institute of Sea and the University of Dubrovnik's coastal coastal.
