Facts About Eastern Cuba Robber Frog
The Eleutherodactylus auriculatus, a frog endemic to Cuba and the Isla de la Juventud, belongs to the Eleutherodactylidae family. This arboreal species can be found in a range of habitats, from sea level up to 1,300 meters in elevation. It is quite resilient, thriving in both primary and secondary mesic forests, as well as in coffee plantations with tall trees.
These frogs are known to lay their eggs in bromeliads or directly on the ground. Despite their adaptability, Eleutherodactylus auriculatus faces significant threats due to habitat loss from deforestation, agriculture, and infrastructure development. Their survival is increasingly at risk because of these human activities.
