Polabské muzeum - Muzeum Bedřicha Hrozného, Lysá nad Labem
Facts and practical information
The Bedřich Hrozný Museum is a museum institution located in the town of Lysá nad Labem in the Elbe region. It is part of the Museum of Lysá Lázně, a contributory organization of the Central Bohemia Region. The main purpose of the museum is to commemorate the personality of the eminent scientist Bedřich Hrozný.
The museum was founded in 1893 on the basis of the activity of the members of the Readers' Unity. After a year of operation, the museum became independent from the unity. The leading figure of the newly established museum society was František Otruba, a researcher in the field of local ethnography and history. The museum made its first significant public appearance at the Czechoslovak Ethnographic Exhibition in Prague in 1895, when it exhibited 101 objects related to the Polabí region. The organizing committee of the exhibition awarded an honorary diploma with recognition for the exhibition.
Between 1912 and 1952 the museum was housed in the old town hall, then it was moved to a separate building on the square, where it remains today. It became a branch of the Polabský Museum in the 1960s.
