MO-Sm-S 42, Háj ve Slezsku

The Smolkov artillery fortress is part of the Czechoslovak fortifications built in 1935-1938. The fortress is located east of Opava, near the village of Háj in Silesia.

The Smolkov Fortress consists of five objects: infantry cabin MO-S 40 "Above the road", artillery cabin MO-S 39 "At the trigonometer", object for artillery rotating and sliding tower MO-S 38 "In the forest", artillery observation post MO-S 42 "Above the Grove" and entrance object MO-S 41 "Above the Valcha".

All Smolkovo's buildings are connected to an extensive underground system, which is approximately the shape of a ypsilon. As with the surrounding buildings, the armoured elements were torn out during the occupation. During the Second World War, the German army tested steel nets on the fortress to protect it from bombing and at the end of the war it was shelled by the Red Army. Today the fortress is used by the Czech Army and the interior is used as a warehouse. Access to the interior of the fortress is not allowed. Visitors can see the exteriors of the individual buildings, except for the entrance building, which is surrounded by a fence and is inaccessible to the public. A marked hiking trail runs through the surface of the fortress.
