Říčanský hrad, Říčany
Facts and practical information
Říčany is a castle ruin from the second half of the thirteenth century in the town of the same name in the Prague-East district. The castle stood on a small hill at an altitude of 340 metres above sea level. It has been protected as a cultural monument since 1966.
Together with Vízmburk Castle, it belonged to the pinnacle of noble castle architecture of the thirteenth century, when only a very important builder could afford to build a smaller version of a royal castle with a perimeter building. The owner's capabilities are also evidenced by the intricate stonework details, which were probably made by the royal construction works.
