Modravské slates is a natural monument in the municipality of Modrava in the Šumava National Park. It is the largest complex of peat bogs in Šumava, which is mostly inaccessible to the public. The Modrava bogs represent a uniquely preserved complex of upland peat bogs, which have developed on the vernal pools and shallow basins since the last ice age. Their total area is more than 2000 hectares. It is the first zone of Šumava National Park, which protects especially the unique vegetation and fauna. It is home to the endangered ruffed grouse, the lynx and the mountain mouse. The Modrava bogs have been included in the international network of world important peat bogs and wetlands under the Ramskara Convention.
