Synagoga
Facts and practical information
The synagogue in Golčov Jeníkov is located in Pod Vyšehradem Street as No. 768 in the centre of the Jewish quarter southwest of T. G. Masaryk Square in Golčov Jeníkov. Together with other buildings in the Jewish Quarter it is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
The synagogue was built in the Neo-Romanesque style in 1871-1873 on the site of an older wooden house of prayer that burned down in 1808. Regular services were held here until the beginning of World War II. In the period 1942-1965, the building served as a house of prayer of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. Since 1969 it has been used as a depository of the Jewish Museum in Prague.
The former prayer room of the Halych Jews, a cheder and mikveh, a rabbi's house, a yeshiva and a meat shop still stand in the village.
The synagogue was reconstructed in the 1990s. It is not open to the public.
The local Jewish community ceased to exist in 1940. There is also a Jewish cemetery in Golčov Jeníkov.
