Amalienborg, Copenhagen

Amalienborg is the winter home of the Danish royal family and a distinguished architectural landmark in Copenhagen, Denmark. This unique ensemble of palatial buildings, characterized by its Rococo architecture, consists of four identical palace facades surrounding an octagonal courtyard. At the center of this courtyard stands the equestrian statue of King Frederick V, the founder of Amalienborg.

Constructed in the mid-18th century, Amalienborg was originally built for four noble families; however, when Christiansborg Palace burned down in 1794, the royal family bought the palaces and moved in. Since then, it has been the main residence of the Danish monarchy, symbolizing the nation's rich history and continuing monarchical tradition.

One of the defining features of Amalienborg is the daily changing of the guard ceremony, known as Den Kongelige Livgarde. Tourists and locals alike gather to watch the guards march from their barracks through the streets of Copenhagen to Amalienborg, where the event takes place at noon.
