Facts and practical information

Tunø Fyr is a lighthouse on the island of Tunø between Jutland and Samsø, built in 1801 in the tower of Tunø Church, after the latter had been raised by 6 m. The white square tower was further raised to its present height in 1906 and had a new lantern added. The flame height is 31 m, and the lighthouse character Oc WRG 5s. and thus an angle lighthouse with an eclipse every 5 seconds. The church and tower belong to the Danish People's Church, and are therefore not protected buildings. The combination of a church tower and a lighthouse is not found anywhere else in Denmark. Tunø used to have its own resident priest, and for many years the priest acted as the island's lighthouse keeper, and it was said that "on Tunø the priest sleeps with the lighthouse keeper's wife".
