Naturama, Svendborg
Facts and practical information
Naturama is the name of Svendborg's natural history museum. From its opening on 2 June 1935 until January 2005, it was called the Zoological Museum.
Naturama exhibits a large collection of stuffed animals on water, on land and from the air. The animals are mainly from the North and the Arctic, such as whales, polar bears, foxes and owls. There are regular special exhibitions on natural history, for example on dinosaurs in 2019 and invasive animal species in 2020.
Naturama has biologists and nature guides who research, communicate and teach about nature. Among other things, research is carried out on the hazel mouse, which lives on South Funen, one of the few places in Denmark.
On 30 April 2003, construction of a new exhibition building began and on 3 September 2003, Queen Margrethe and Prince Consort Henrik laid the foundation stone. On 18 April 2005, the new exhibition building was inaugurated, increasing the museum's surface area from 700 m² to 4,200 m².
