When Is the Best Time To Visit Denmark?
The answer to the question of what is the best month to visit Denmark depends on what you are interested in doing during your stay. Here you can see an overview of each month and its typical weather conditions.
Tourist Season in Denmark
Denmark is best visited during the summer from June to August. This is the ideal time for hiking and biking escapades. Long warm days encourage both sightseeing and beachcombing on the coasts and islands (including Bornholm).
Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October), despite being a bit cooler and windier are still a good choice for a visit to Denmark. Admittedly, it's too cold for beachcombing and sea bathing, but you can take round trips or focus on visiting attractions.
The winter period (November to March) is outside the tourist season. When organizing a trip during this time, you have to expect falling temperatures, increased rain or snowfall and gusty winds. Days during this time are short and usually humid and foggy.

For countries with a large geographical spread, the most visited places were taken into account and the data were averaged. For selected countries, seasonal holidays were also taken into account, as long as they significantly affect the tourist traffic in this period.

April - May
Apr | May |
April days are still quite short and cool with temperatures hovering around 11°C. It is not until May that the mercury pole rises a few degrees, however, nights still remain cold. In spring, despite the wind, the climate is usually dry and mild. This is a good time for those wishing to bypass the peak tourist season and appreciate a more intimate vacation. Unfortunately, it is still too cold for beachcombing and sea bathing on the coasts and islands, but it is possible to organize round trips combined with visits to the country's most important sights. However, it is worth remembering that the opening hours of some attractions may be shortened.

June - August
Jun | Jul | Aug |
The summer months are warm, but not hot. Temperatures range from 18°C - 24°C. There may be a little more rain, but there are no fogs or strong winds.
The peak tourist season is underway, resorts are bustling with activity, and all attractions are open to incoming tourists. Long and sunny days make it possible to relax on the coasts and islands. There are good conditions for beachcombing and sea bathing. The country has almost 5,000 kilometers of beaches, and the water temperature in the sea is really pleasant. This is because the western part of the Baltic Sea is not reached by cold currents from the Gulf of Bothnia, and most of the bathing sites are spread over shallow bays where the water heats up quickly. On the Baltic Sea the season lasts from mid-June to early September, and on the west coast a little shorter - from late June to mid-August.
In summer it is worth visiting the island of Bornholm, where, thanks to the specific microclimate, the air temperature can reach 30°C. Here you can laze on the beach or spend time actively. It is an ideal place for sailing, diving and windsurfing.

September - October
Sep | Oct |
The autumn months bring gradual cooling and more cloud cover. September still remains relatively bright and sunny, with temperatures ranging from 15°C - 18°C. Nature in autumn colors makes both sightseeing and active recreation more pleasant. Unfortunately, it is slowly getting too cold for beachcombing and sea bathing on the coasts and islands. It is worth remembering that both the end of summer and the beginning of autumn are also very rainy periods and without an umbrella it is better not to move. October brings a significant drop in temperatures, the days are getting shorter and windier.
November - March
Nov | Dec | Jan | Feb | Mar |
Winter is wet and foggy. Days are short and cloudy, with temperatures oscillating between -1°C and 2°C. It gets really cold in Denmark when parts of the Baltic Sea are covered with ice. Although there is no severe frost and snow does not happen too often, gusty winds make the perceived temperature much lower. The exception is Bornholm with its noticeably milder and sunnier microclimate.
The winter months are not a good time for sightseeing as well as hiking or biking. When organizing a trip to Denmark during this period, one should expect a number of difficulties. There may be traffic problems caused by the weather, some roads on the islands are impassable, and ferry connections are sometimes suspended due to storms. Access to tourist facilities (including seaside resorts, restaurants, museums, parks) is also limited. Many attractions are temporarily closed or the time for using them is shortened.
