When Is the Best Time To Visit Estonia?
The answer to the question of what is the best month to visit Estonia depends on what you are interested in doing during your stay. Here you can see an overview of each month and its typical weather conditions.
Climate of Estonia
Estonia lies in a transitional climate zone between maritime and continental climates. In the coastal regions and on the islands, thanks to the constant influx of warm sea air, the weather is friendlier than inland.
In summer, the whole country is sunny and warm, with temperatures fluctuating between 18°C and 25°C, and heat waves reaching 30°C also occur. During the warmest months, rain is also not unavoidable, which is quite common during this period. An interesting phenomenon are the so-called white nights, which in Estonia begin in late June and last until the first half of July. During this time, the day lengthens to 19 hours, and the night is basically clear all the time.
Winters in Estonia tend to be long, cold and snowy. Temperatures in the country's western regions and on the coasts and islands range from 0°C to -4°C. Central and eastern areas, on the other hand, tend to be a few degrees colder, here the mercury bar can drop to -10°C. Snow is a regular occurrence during the winter months, which usually lasts from December to March. The thickest snow cover is found in the southeastern regions of the country. In late November and early December, the sea freezes over, and the ice usually melts only in April. Days are short, lasting only six hours, and the sun is very low.
Precipitation is generally distributed throughout the year, with slightly more intense rainfall from June to November. The average annual precipitation is 500 mm - 700 mm. More of it is recorded on the highlands and moraine hills, and less on the coast and islands.
