Climate of Falkland Islands

The Falkland Islands lie in the cool temperate climate zone, close to the peri-polar (subantarctic) zone. A large influence on the climatic conditions of the islands is the influence of cold air masses of Antarctic origin and ocean currents.

Temperatures are low, and diurnal differences are small. During the coolest period, temperatures reach about 2°C, while during the warmest period they reach 9°C - 15°C.

A feature of Falkland Islands' weather is the absence of frosts, with summers being cool and winters mild.

Precipitation amounts to about 600 mm and is evenly distributed throughout the year. They take the form of long-lasting drizzle or fine rain, and intense downpours are rare. Snowfall is also possible, but no snow cover is deposited.

A feature of the Falklands' climate is also the constant high humidity, which creates conditions for fog. There are also strong winds that cause storms.
