St. Nikolas Church is the main church of the Joensuu Orthodox Parish. It was completed in 1887. The church is located in the center of Joensuu at the northern end of Kirkkokatu. The church is surrounded by Ristinpuisto.
The church can be considered as a sign of 19th-century Orthodox wooden church architecture with decorations and details. The most valuable part of the Church designed by G. I. Karpov is probably iconostasis painted in Alexander Nevsky's Lavra in St. Petersburg.
The six bells of the church are original. They are cast in St. Petersburg. The 120th anniversary of the church was celebrated on 22-23. September 2007.
