The Western Clubtail, scientifically known as *Gomphus pulchellus*, is a captivating dragonfly species native to Western Europe, although it is absent from the British Isles. This dragonfly thrives in clean water bodies such as ponds, canals, and muddy or clay-filled depressions.

Measuring between 47 and 50 mm in length, the Western Clubtail is notable within the Gomphidae family as it lacks the typical club-shaped abdomen suggested by its name. Instead, it features a pale olive-green body and striking blue eyes.
