Facts and practical information
The castle of the Dukes of Alençon is a former fortress, from the late twelfth century, now destroyed, whose remains stand on the French town of Alençon in the department of Orne, Normandy region. The remaining buildings, built around 1400 by Jean I, were transformed during the Revolution into a prison, a function it retained until 2010. The castle was the center of the county and then the duchy of Alençon.
The castle is classified as a historical monument by the list of 1862.
