Église Saint-Gervais
Facts and practical information
The Saint-Gervais de Courteuil church is a Catholic parish church located in Courteuil, France. Its oldest part, the choir with a flat chevet, dates from the early 13th century. In the 16th century, it was enlarged in two phases by the addition of collateral to the north and south. They are both different, and the short nave with its single north aisle still displays a different style. In spite of this stylistic diversity, with the cohabitation of primitive Gothic, flamboyant Gothic and Renaissance, without forgetting the traces of successive remodeling, the eastern parts present a remarkable spatial unity. The small size of the church does not make us forget that it is a small rural church of no importance, but this does not prevent the architecture from being in keeping with the different periods of construction. The altarpiece in the chevet probably comes from the church of the priory of Saint-Nicolas-d'Acy, which was located in the same commune. There are also two recumbents, which is rare in the region. The church of Saint-Gervais is therefore not lacking in interest, and it was registered as a historical monument by decree of February 20, 1970. It is affiliated with the parish of Saint-Rieul de Senlis.
