Château de Ray, Ray-sur-Saône
Facts and practical information
The castle of Ray-sur-Saône is an ancient fortress dating from the 10th century rebuilt in classical style in the 18th century, located in Ray-sur-Saône in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. The castle belongs to the department of Haute-Saône, since the donation of Diane Baconnière de Salverte on May 29, 2015. It is in a perfect state of conservation; the park is open to visitors free of charge. It is one of the most beautiful castles in the region because of its rich interior and exterior.
The castle has been classified as a historical monument since November 2009. The old fortress has undergone various transformations over the centuries and retains traces of each era it has passed through, even if it was badly damaged by the Ten Years War. For the most part, it is a building from 1720 and after. However, one can easily guess what is no longer there, such as the ditches surrounding the castle, now filled in, or the drawbridge whose location can still be seen.
