The Basilica of Our Lady of Verdelais, is a Catholic basilica of the XVII th century located in the heart of Verdelais, a small town of the Gironde. A chapel built in the eleventh century to house a statue of the Virgin Mary brought from the Holy Land became a place of Marian pilgrimage and was rebuilt several times. Always a popular place of pilgrimage for the Catholics of New Aquitaine, the church was elevated to the rank of minor basilica on July 31, 1924. It has been registered as a historical monument since March 31, 2000.
