St. Martin's Church, Esnandes
Facts and practical information
The Saint-Martin church is a catholic church located in Esnandes, France. The church of Saint-Martin d'Esnandes, classified as a historical monument since 1840, was built in the 12th century, as shown by the superb sculpted portal on the façade. It was rebuilt and fortified in the 14th and 15th centuries, in a sober and elegant gothic style, then restored in the 19th century. It still has listed furniture from the 18th century, including a pulpit from 1775. Both a church and a fortress, the building surprises by its imposing appearance on the edge of the Marais Poitevin, once a vast gulf of the Pictons. The Romanesque facade of the 12th century, the fortifications of the 14th century and the furniture of the 18th century testify of the past centuries. From the covered way, you will appreciate the panoramic view on the bay of Aiguillon, the marsh and the village.
