Église Saint-Denys, Goussainville
Facts and practical information
Saint-Denis Church is a Catholic parish church located in Le Thillay, Val-d'Oise, France. The parish is not attested before the 13th century, and the circumstances of its foundation are unknown. The present church dates almost entirely from the 16th century, and is representative of the reconstruction after the Hundred Years War. The date of the first consecration in 1545 is consistent with the subdued and somewhat repetitive flamboyant Gothic architecture that dominates the building. The date of the second consecration in 1583 may correspond to the completion of the ribbed vaulting, as suggested by the richly worked Renaissance keystones. These are practically the only elements that have been the object of a decorative effort. As a whole, the church is well built and very homogeneous, but of a very simple construction. Its irregular plan with a single aisle to the north and a short chapel to the south, and the few old elements of its furniture, add to its interest. The church of Saint-Denis was registered as a historical monument by order of November 5, 1965. It is part of a parish grouping with Fontenay-en-Parisis, Goussainville and Vaud'herland. Sunday Masses are celebrated in principle every Sunday at 9:30 am.
