Château de la Cheyrelle, Dienne
Facts and practical information
The château de la Cheyrelle, located in the commune of Dienne at an altitude of 1,100 m, is a manor house built in the 19th century on the foundations of an old medieval barn where agricultural activity lasted until the 1990s.
But it is at the beginning of the XXth century, between 1903 and 1905 that the castle acquires its definitive shape and its singularity, with the transformation works undertaken by Pierre Felgères, its owner, then mayor of Dienne and a "coulissier" in Paris. He entrusted the enlargement and the complete reorganization of the property to his brother-in-law, the Parisian architect René Dulong, as well as to his associate Gustave Serrurier-Bovy, the famous architect and decorator from Liège, one of the masters of the art nouveau,
René Dulong and Gustave Serrurrier-Bovy thus applied to the Château de La Cheyrelle, with great freedom, the avant-garde and visionary principles in favor of which they were militating at the time and which, for the most part, are still the basis of contemporary architecture.
This exceptional ensemble, which has remained virtually intact to this day, is currently being restored.
