Fritz the Elephant, born in the 1820s in Asia and died on June 11, 1902 in Tours, France, is an Asian Elephant that was owned and operated by the American circus company Barnum & Bailey.
Having become uncontrollable in the streets of Tours where the circus was performing, he was shot by strangulation. His remains, offered by the circus to the city of Tours, were naturalized in 1902-1903 and restored in 1976-1977. Although it is part of the collections of the Tours Natural History Museum, it is kept in an annex of the Tours Museum of Fine Arts where it is visited by walkers.
