Church of St. Peter St. Paul, Baron
Facts and practical information
The Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul church is a Catholic parish church located in Baron, France. Its bell tower with a 45 m high stone spire dates from the XVth century. The church itself was built entirely in the 16th century in the flamboyant gothic style, and presents a rare homogeneity, even more so inside than outside. The main facade is the southern one, and the most careful element is the southern crosspiece which contains the portal. There are no high windows: the high walls of the nave and the choir are bare above the large arches. The interior is very sober: there is not a single capital, and the moldings are concentrated on the undulating piers and the large arcades, but the clear lines and the harmony of the proportions create an impression of elegance, underlined by the 18th century woodwork from the Chaalis abbey. The church was classified very early as a historical monument by the list of 1840, and is thus among the very first thirteen historical monuments of the department of Oise. Today it is affiliated with the parish of Notre-Dame-de-la-Visitation du Haudouin.
