Église Sainte-Félicité
Facts and practical information
The Sainte-Félicité church is a Catholic parish church located in Montagny-Sainte-Félicité, in the Oise department, France. It was given to the Saint-Vincent de Senlis abbey in 1154, which established a priory north of the church, and remained the collator of the parish until the French Revolution. The oldest elements of the present church date back only to the 13th century; they are the supports of the vaults of the two right bays of the choir. Otherwise, the church was completely rebuilt between 1510 and 1525, in the flamboyant gothic style. Only the facade and the bell tower are a little more recent, and already belong to the Renaissance. It is especially for its high and graceful stone spire that the church of Sainte-Félicité is known: it culminates at 65 m height, and is surpassed, in the department, only by the cathedral of Senlis. If the architecture of the rest of the church shows few particularities and remains almost austere, except for the façade and the chevet, it can boast a beautiful and vast stone altarpiece, installed in 1568 and relating the martyrdom of Saint Felicity of Rome, patron saint of the church. The bell tower and the altarpiece were listed as historical monuments in 1862. The church is now affiliated with the parish of Notre-Dame de la Visitation du Haudouin, and is practically no longer used for worship.
