Phare du Sénéquet
Facts and practical information
The Sénéquet lighthouse is located on the rock of the same name 3.8 km off the coast of Gouville-sur-Mer. It is a stone building painted in white, with a black base and lantern.
At first, the site was a simple beacon turret without a light, but it was transformed after the wreck of the wheeled aviso l'Antilope, which broke open in foggy weather just next to the Sénéquet on December 14, 1858, while rescuing a merchant ship in trouble off Carteret, beaten by the waves and the tides, has now disappeared, the massive crankshaft as well as some debris of the engine and the paddle wheels are visible at low tide at geographical point 49.04.815N 01.39.936W and are a site very appreciated by the fishermen on foot
