Église Saint-Rieul
Facts and practical information
Saint-Rieul Church is a Catholic parish church located in Brenouille, France. It is one of the very few churches dedicated to the first bishop of Senlis, Saint Rieul, that remain in the region. The oldest parts of the present building date back to the middle of the 12th century. They are the transept crossing and the northern crosspiece. Successive alterations and enlargements have given the building a disparate character, which is part of its interest. The northern crossing and the side chapel to the north of the choir date from the end of the 12th century, and the two-bay choir hall from the 14th century. These parts display different stages of Gothic architecture. The nave and aisles were replaced by a classical style complex during the 1780s, and completed a few months before the French Revolution. The church of Saint-Rieul was registered as a historical monument by decree of April 2, 1927, and restored in 1962. It is affiliated with the parish of Sainte-Maxence de Pont-Sainte-Maxence.
