Tour de Broue
Facts and practical information
The tower of Broue is the only vestige of an eleventh-century fortress established on a powerful promontory overlooking the ancient gulf of Brouage, and located on the territory of the French commune of Saint-Sornin, in Charente-Maritime.
The quadrangular keep, 25 meters high, has been listed in the supplementary inventory of historical monuments since 1925, and owes its preservation to the "association of the friends of Saint-Sornin", which partly financed a consolidation campaign between 1993 and 1997.
Nowadays, walking paths, a picnic area and a museum have been set up nearby. A long distance hiking trail, the GR 360, passes near the site.
