Church of Our Lady, Othis
Facts and practical information
Notre-Dame-de-la-Nativité Church is a Catholic parish church located in Othis, Seine-et-Marne, France. It was built between the end of the 15th and the first half of the 16th century in the flamboyant Gothic style, partly reusing the masonry of an earlier building of the 14th century. Only the keystones and the richly decorated western façade are in the Renaissance style. The facade, probably completed in 1573, is one of the most remarkable of its time in the entire department. The church itself is a much more modest building, barely longer than it is wide, and of mediocre height. Its architecture is more elaborate than the almost frustrated side elevations and chevet would suggest, but the single-cylindrical pillars and lack of formets reflect economy of means. The church of Notre-Dame was classified as a historical monument in 1875. It is now affiliated with the West-Goële parish sector, with headquarters in Dammartin-en-Goële, and Sunday masses are celebrated there irregularly, about one Saturday evening per month, at 6:30 pm.
