Château Ganne, La Pommeraye

Château Ganne is an ancient castle whose remains are located on the former lands of Château de la Pommeraye, in the French department of Calvados. It is located in a hilly area known as the Suisse Normande. It was acquired by the General Council of Calvados in 2003. The Ganne castle is the subject of archaeological excavations. Indeed it is part of a multidisciplinary study project led by the General Council of Calvados.
The name of château Ganne was given to it in the 18th century. It was previously known as Château de la Pommeraye. Many castles, especially in Normandy, bear the name Ganne. It would be the nickname of Ganelon's father who caused the death of Roland at Roncesvalles by betraying Charlemagne.
