The museum of Brittany is a museum of society and history. It is located in the Champs libres in Rennes, between the train station and the city center, since 2006. It was previously located in the university palace, quai de la Vilaine, with the museum of fine arts. In 2016, the museum of Brittany celebrated its 40th anniversary and its 10 years in the Champs libres.
It is a museum with a regional vocation, which, over the course of a long evolution, was first presented as a museum of archaeology and ethnology and then asserted itself as a museum of society.
Its mission is to preserve, study, and present the history of Brittany and its heritage, while participating in its promotion and dissemination. Its collections include more than 600 000 documents and objects. They are representative of the Breton heritage, from the first traces of Man to our days.
Since 2007, the museum of Brittany is labeled Tourism and Handicap. It offers many guided tours, and also LSF and tactile tours.
