The abbey of La Chaise-Dieu, in Auvergne, is a former Benedictine abbey, head of the Casadean order, located in the commune of La Chaise-Dieu in the Haute-Loire department.
The origin of the name is the Latin Casa Dei, hence the adjective Casadean. The Benedictine abbey is famous for its gothic architecture, its rich library, its workshop of liturgical books, its danse macabre, its curious Salle des Echos, its tapestry of the Apparition of Christ to Mary Magdalene and its music festival founded in 1966 by Georges Cziffra.
