Église Saint-Yves
Facts and practical information
The church of Saint-Yves de Plounéour-Ménez was built in 1651, on the site of an older church. The church itself and the triumphal arch were classified as historical monuments by decree of March 27, 1914; the monumental door, the enclosure wall and the grounds of the enclosure were classified by decree of June 5, 1925.
Its rather sober architecture, highlights the large dimensions of the building and in particular the bell tower which culminates at more than 50 m which makes it one of the highest in Finistère, at least as far as parish churches are concerned.
The enclosure is accessible by a very beautiful triumphal arch in large stonework, east of the church.
Let us also note some "treasures" of which: the calvary of the placister, dated 1540, one of the very first dated in Lower Brittany; the two statues of the porch, in Kersanton granite, made by Roland Doré and representing Saint John and Saint Matthias; the pulpit, probably from the 17th century, which houses on its vat the four evangelists in bas-relief as well as various scenes from the Old and New Testaments all along its balustrade; the three altarpieces, including the one of the Rosary and especially the one of the Dead in the northern chapel of the church.
On one of the two bells is the following inscription: "Blessed by Mr Y. Le Lann Rector of Plounaour-Menes. Godfather Mr Sébastien J. Le Dall, baron of Tromelin, former captain of frigate, knight of the royal orders of St Louis, the legion of honor and the order of St George and the two Sicilies. Godmother Mrs Leontine Le Hénaff, born Revel. Mayor Mr Théophile JM. Le Hénaff. Treasurer Mr JM. Poitevin. Members of the council Claude Martin, Jean Henry. Founded by Briens frères in Morlaix. 1832 "
