Facts and practical information

The aqueduct of Maintenon is an unfinished work of art, located on the domain of the castle of Maintenon, crossing the valley of the Eure. It is part of the Canal de l'Eure initiated by Louis XIV in order to supply water to the castle of Versailles. Work began in 1686, but was abandoned in 1689 when the kingdom went to war against the League of Augsburg. The aqueduct has been classified as a historical monument since 1875. The two funnels have been listed as historical monuments since March 19, 1934.
