Facts About Dominostein
A Dominostein is a delightful confection found in Germany and Austria, particularly cherished during the Christmas season. Imagine several delectable layers, all enveloped in a thin coating of dark chocolate. The base consists of Lebkuchen, a type of gingerbread, topped with layers of fruity jelly—often derived from sour cherries or apricots—and either marzipan or persipan, a similar paste made from apricot or peach kernels.
This sweet treat boasts an intriguing history. It was invented in 1936 by Herbert Wendler in Dresden, Germany. Wendler aimed to create a more affordable option within his range of praline products, something that more people could enjoy. And it was a success! During World War II, when food was scarce, the Dominostein became even more popular as a substitute for costlier pralines.
