Facts About Weißwurstäquator
The term "Weißwurstäquator" is a playful expression used to highlight the cultural differences between Southern Germany, especially Bavaria, and the northern regions, including Central Germany. The name is derived from the well-known Bavarian sausage called "Weißwurst."
This imaginary boundary is not precisely defined but is often associated with the linguistic divide marked by the Speyer line, which delineates Upper German from Central German dialects, near the Main River. Some people also envision it as a line further south, potentially following the course of the Danube River or situated somewhere between the Main and Danube rivers, roughly around the 49th parallel north.
