The two -storey building in Eleftheria Square, which houses the current Archaeological Museum of Kos, is a preserved monument of the Italian rule, built in 1936, when Mario Lago was general manager of the Dodecanese.

It is characterized by most as an example of the international style left by Italian rule in the Dodecanese architecture. Others are a characteristic architectural sample of fascist monumental architecture.
