Crested guan

The crested guan is a fascinating bird that belongs to the Cracidae family. It can be found across the Neotropics, ranging from Mexico to Venezuela. This bird features dark brown plumage adorned with white spots, a striking red wattle, a distinctive bushy crest, and charming pink legs.

Crested guans are social creatures, often observed in pairs or small family groups. They primarily feed on fruit and build their nests high up in trees. The female typically lays two to three white eggs, which she then incubates.

In terms of size, the crested guan is quite large, measuring between 84 and 91.5 cm in length and weighing about 1,750 grams. They are also renowned for their loud calls and whistles, which can be heard echoing through the lowlands and up to altitudes of 1,850 meters.
