When Is the Best Time To Visit Hungary?
The answer to the question of what is the best month to visit Hungary depends on what you are interested in doing during your stay. Here you can see an overview of each month and its typical weather conditions.
Climate of Hungary
Hungary lies in a temperate continental climate zone with oceanic and Mediterranean influences. The country is characterized by long, hot summers and short but cold winters. Due to its geographic location, there are no major climatic differences between regions. The exception is the mountainous areas, where the weather is shaped somewhat differently.
Winter lasts from November to the end of February, and is often capricious, sometimes severe, other times extremely mild again. Temperatures during this time oscillate between -3°C and 10°C. There may be snowfall, but snow cover persists only in the highest parts of the Northern Foothills.
Summers are long and warm, even hot. During the day, thermometers often indicate above 35°C. The water temperature in Lake Balaton is also high - around 25°C. Only in the mountains is it slightly cooler, around 18°C.
The autumn and spring seasons are warm and sunny, the aura during this time resembles a not very hot but cheerful summer.
Rainfall is moderate and year-round with a slight increase in the summer season. Average annual precipitation is 800 mm - 900 mm in the mountains and 500 mm - 600 mm in the lowlands. The central part of the Great Plain is the driest region (less than 500 mm per year), and periodic droughts can occur here.
