Tochal
Facts and practical information
Tochal, a towering presence in the northern skyline of Tehran, Iran, is a mountain that offers both natural splendor and recreational activities to the city's residents and tourists alike. Part of the Alborz mountain range, Tochal reaches an impressive height of approximately 3,964 meters (13,005 feet) and is a popular destination for hiking, skiing, and mountaineering.
The mountain is perhaps best known for its ski resort, which is one of the world's highest and is accessible via a gondola lift, known as the Tochal Telecabin. This lift, one of the longest lines in the world, offers breathtaking views as it ascends the mountain, making the journey up as memorable as the activities at the peak.
Tochal's ski resort features several ski slopes, catering to a range of skill levels, and is notable for its extended season, often lasting from late November to May due to the mountain's elevation and weather patterns. In addition to winter sports, Tochal's hiking trails are a draw for outdoor enthusiasts, with paths that wind through rugged terrain and offer panoramic vistas of Tehran and the surrounding landscape.
The mountain also hosts a hotel, located at an altitude of 3,500 meters, providing convenient accommodations for those wishing to extend their stay and enjoy the alpine environment for more than just a day trip.
Tochal is not only a hub for sports and recreation but also an ecological haven, with its higher altitudes providing a refuge for a variety of flora and fauna, distinct from the bustling city below.
