When Is the Best Time To Visit Ireland?

The answer to the question of what is the best month to visit Ireland depends on what you are interested in doing during your stay. Here you can see an overview of each month and its typical weather conditions.

Climate of Ireland

Ireland lies in the zone of temperate humid maritime climate. It is strongly influenced by air masses coming from the southwest from the Atlantic Ocean and the moderating activity of the North Atlantic (Gulf) Current.

Within the island, the climate is not very diverse, usually characterized by warm summers and mild winters. Average air temperatures in the coldest months of the year (January, February) range between 4°C and 7°C, while in the warmest months (July, August) they fluctuate between 15°C and 20°C.

The amount of precipitation is about 1,100 mm per year and varies from region to region: from 760 mm in the east to 2,540 mm in the mountains on the west coast. Rainy days occur on average 200-250 times a year, intensifying in the second half of the year. Snowfall is rare, usually only in the mountains. In May and June you can expect the most serene days, with the sun shining nearly 6 hours a day during this time. In the remaining months, fog, heavy cloud cover and strong winds are common.
