Facts About Reggae Sumfest
Reggae Sumfest is the premier music festival in Jamaica and the Caribbean, held annually in mid-July in Montego Bay since its inception in 1993. This vibrant festival attracts a diverse, global audience and showcases a mix of Jamaican reggae legends such as Damian "Junior Gong" Marley, Stephen Marley, Ziggy Marley, and Bunny Wailer. In addition to these icons, the stage also features top dancehall stars and international artists like 50 Cent, Rihanna, Kanye West, and Usher.
In 2016, Downsound Records acquired the festival and its trademark from the original founders, Summerfest Productions Limited. Reggae Sumfest begins with a lively beach party, followed by street dances and themed events, culminating in two main festival nights filled with performances from the best in dancehall and reggae.
In recognition of his significant contributions to establishing this iconic festival, one of the founders, Robert Russell, was honored with the Order of Distinction award in 2017.
