Mt.Shiude, Mitoyo
Facts and practical information
Mt. Shiunode is a mountain located in Mitoyo City, Kagawa Prefecture, within the Shonai Peninsula, which juts out into the Seto Inland Sea. It is located within the Setonaikai National Park. At 352 meters above sea level, the observatory at the summit offers a 360-degree view of the Bisan Seto and Seto-ohashi bridges and the Mizushima coastal industrial area to the east, Hiuchinada to the west, the Shikoku mountain range to the south, and the Sanyo Route to the north, including Fukuyama City and Kasaoka Islands in Kasaoka City. Mt. Shiunode is mostly formed of granite, except for the area around the summit. There are ruins of a highland settlement from the mid-Yayoi period in the area around the summit, and an archaeological site museum is attached to the site. At the foot of the driveway leading to the summit, there is a public restroom that resembles a dragon's palace, and in 1986 it was selected as one of the 100 best forests for forest bathing by the Forestry Agency and others, and in 2004 as one of the 100 best green areas in Kagawa.
The photo representing the Seto Inland Islands, which was ranked seventh by the New York Times as one of the 52 destinations to go to in 2019 and the only one in Japan, was of cherry blossoms at dusk on Mt. Shikunode.
