Shirakami-sha, Hiroshima
Facts and practical information
Shirakamisha is a Shinto shrine located in Naka-machi, Naka-ku, Hiroshima City. It is a former township shrine, affectionately called "Shirakamisan" by the citizens.
The shrine used to be a large shrine connected to the former Kokutaiji Temple, but was temporarily destroyed by fire during the atomic bombing, and its size was reduced. Today, a 100-meter wide road has been built around the shrine, and modern buildings line the street, giving the shrine a cozy appearance. The shrine is also important for historical verification, as the rocks in the shrine grounds mark the shifting of the coastline due to the formation of the Hiroshima delta, and the "rocks discolored red by the heat rays of the atomic bomb" and the "bombed camphor tree" show the traces of the atomic bombing.
