Fukuoka Castle, once a formidable fortress in the heart of Fukuoka, Japan, stands as a testament to the city's rich samurai history. This historic castle, also known as Maizuru Castle, was constructed in the early 17th century under the orders of Kuroda Nagamasa, a powerful daimyo of the Edo period. The castle's remnants are situated in the expansive Maizuru Park, which becomes a popular spot for cherry blossom viewing in the spring. Visitors to the park can explore the stone walls and yagura (turrets) that once fortified the castle. The remnants are strategically located on a hill, providing a commanding view of the city, much as it would have in its heyday when it served as a vital power base for the ruling lords.
