Maruyama is a volcano located at Tounohara, Hiwaki-cho, Satsumasendai City, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. It is also called Satsumamaruyama and Kouyama.
It has a distinctive hemispherical shape and is considered one of the symbols of Hiwaki. Benzaiten is enshrined on the summit, and a third-class triangular point is located on the summit. Itsukushima Shrine is located on the western hillside, and Maruyama Park is on the southeastern hillside. Maruyama Nature Park is located at the foot of the mountain on the east side.
It is a lava dome formed 550,000 years ago at the same time as Rushida Volcano, which surrounds Rushida Pond located 6 km northeast of the volcano. It is composed of hornblende and andesite, and columnar joints can be seen on the southern slope of the summit. The mountainside is covered with evergreen broadleaf forest.
