Facts About Great blue turaco
The great blue turaco, an intriguing member of the Musophagidae family, is celebrated as the largest species of turaco. These vibrant birds are native to the tropical rainforests of Africa. Typically ranging from 70 to 76 cm in length and weighing between 800 and 1,231 grams, they are a sight to behold.
Regrettably, in the Bandundu province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the great blue turaco faces severe threats due to hunting. Locals pursue these birds for their meat and striking blue and yellow tail feathers. These feathers are especially valued for their perceived ability to bring good luck and are frequently used in the creation of talismans.
In the vicinity of Kikwit in Bandundu, the great blue turaco is known locally as "Kolonvo."
