Lithuania Travel Weather
When Is the Best Time To Visit Lithuania?
The answer to the question of what is the best month to visit Lithuania depends on what you are interested in doing during your stay. Here you can see an overview of each month and its typical weather conditions.
Tourist Season in Lithuania
Lithuania is best visited during the summer months from June to August. This is the ideal time for both beach and water sports, as well as exploring the country. Long and sunny days encourage outdoor activities.
Spring and autumn, although the weather is slightly worse than in summer is still a relatively good time to travel to Lithuania. The aura can be changeable sometimes sunshine and warmth other times cold and fleeting rains. This should not deter walkers, as Lithuania's hills and valleys in colorful spring or autumn look particularly picturesque. It is also possible to organize round trips around the country or plan a weekend getaway to Vilnius, or Kaunas.
The winter months (November through March) are outside the main tourist season due to temperature drops and snowfall. This is not the best time for those focused on city sightseeing or hiking. There can be traffic problems, and due to snow-covered roads, some areas have limited access. Only winter sports enthusiasts will be satisfied with snow conditions. Ski resorts will provide well-maintained downhill and cross-country ski trails, as well as modern ski lifts and sports equipment rentals. You can also visit the spas in the vicinity and enjoy therapeutic treatments and the famous Lithuanian baths.

Season and weather by month
April - May
Apr | May |
The spring months bring gradual warming and melt, but snowfall is still possible in April. The temperature oscillates between 8°C and 12°C, and frosts may occur at night.
It is only in May that a real breath of spring comes. Days are getting longer, and the sun is more often in the sky. Admittedly, we will not avoid fleeting rainfall, but it is not so frequent and intense as to disrupt your visit. Nature awakens to life, flowering meadows and greening forests make hiking and cycling trips to parks and valleys more pleasant.
Spring is a good time to organize road trips around Lithuania combined with visits to the most important monuments, and to plan weekend getaways to major cities (including Vilnius, Kaunas). The melting snow feeding the rivers also guarantees good conditions for canoeing enthusiasts.

The summer months - the peak tourist season. This is the best time to travel to Lithuania. The country enjoys warm and sunny weather, with temperatures rising to 20°C - 25°C. There are also hot days when the bar of the mercury reaches 30°C.
Summer is the time for beachcombing and swimming on the Baltic Sea coast. It is worth bearing in mind that the temperature of the water in the sea is not very high and fluctuates around 18°C - 21°C. Seaside resorts (including Palanga, Klaipeda and Neringa) are bustling with activity, providing well-developed tourist and accommodation facilities, and organizing numerous outdoor events and cultural activities. Tourists can also enjoy a number of spas (including Druskininkai, Palanga, Neringa and Birshtany) offering recreation combined with medical treatments.

September - October
Sep | Oct |
September marks the end of summer, but it is still quite warm, around 15°C - 17°C. Despite increased cloud cover and fleeting rainfall, you can still count on plenty of sunshine. Admittedly, it's too late for beachcombing, but it's a good time for sightseeing and active outdoor activities. You can admire Lithuania's nature in an autumn setting, and you can also take sightseeing-related road trips.
It doesn't get much colder and wetter until mid-October, with more cloud cover and fog. The days are getting shorter and less sunny, and the mercury pole oscillates around 10°C.
November - March
Nov | Dec | Jan | Feb | Mar |
November heralds the arrival of winter, the days are getting shorter and colder. Temperatures gradually drop from 4°C to -8°C. Clouds and fogs appear, the sun rarely visits the sky. On the coasts it is generally a few degrees warmer than inland. There is heavy snowfall throughout the country, which persists from December to March. Harsh frosts cause rivers, smaller lakes and parts of the Baltic Sea coast to freeze over.
The winter months are not the best time for people focused on sightseeing and hiking in parks and forests. Frost and snow significantly reduce the comfort of a visit, and make it difficult to get around the country, especially in less touristic and sparsely traveled areas.
Winter sports enthusiasts, on the other hand, will be pleased with the snowy conditions. Ski resorts (including those near Ignalina, Onikszty, Palanga, Jezioros, Laimis Hill) provide properly prepared downhill and cross-country ski trails, modern ski lifts and sports equipment rentals. In Druskininkai, in the Snow Arena, thanks to an automatic snowmaking system, winter sports can be practiced all year round. Tourists can also enjoy spas (including Druskininkai, Birštonas, Palanga and Neringa), where traditional baths and a variety of therapeutic treatments are worth trying.
