Schueberfouer

The Schueberfouer is a beloved annual funfair that illuminates Luxembourg City each year. Held in Glacis Square in the Limpertsberg district, this fair is not only the largest amusement event in Luxembourg but also attracts visitors from across national borders.

The Schueberfouer boasts a rich history dating back to 1340, founded by John I of Luxembourg. Traditionally, the fair commences just before Saint Bartholomew's Day and continues for 20 days. During this period, the fairground comes alive with a mix of thrilling rides, charming children's attractions, and tantalizing food stalls.

The name "Schueberfouer" is believed to derive from "Schuedbuerg" the original marketplace where the fair began. Over centuries, the fair has evolved from a simple agricultural market into a vibrant event featuring shows, games, and contemporary amusement rides such as Ferris wheels and rollercoasters.

In 1610, the fair relocated to its current venue at Glacis Square, and it has since been a fixture in Luxembourg's cultural calendar. Each year, millions of visitors flock to the Schueberfouer, making it an unmissable event that continues to capture the hearts of both locals and tourists.
